Prayer & Spirituality
For more than a century we have prayed with people of many cultures and faiths, and every one of them has changed us. Wherever you are, you are welcome to pray with us.
A spiritual life shaped by many cultures
We have been taught by everyone we have lived among, from the Earth-centered wisdom of Indigenous peoples to the practices of our Buddhist neighbors. We are contemplatives in action, and prayer is what sends us out. We arrive expecting to find God already there, in every person and in all of creation.
Our approach to contemplation
Contemplation is not a retreat from the world. For us it is a deeper connection, a more holistic way of looking and embracing. When we move into contemplation, we have already gone through the steps of reflecting, and it draws us deeper into who we are.
“In our active religious life, we don’t have time for sustained and long prayer. We must cultivate union with God at every possible moment.”
— Mother Mary Joseph, our founder
